Christmas Embers by Chautona Havig

Christmas Embers Cover-sm

It’s a truth universally unacknowledged that sin will hunt you down and advertise its presence the moment you try to hide it.
Emily Byrne sits in her daughter’s classroom listening to the deepest wishes of twenty kindergarteners as she sketches them. But when little Joey Cordell breaks down, weeping and insisting the only thing he wants to find is his father, she isn’t sure where her Christmas project will take her.
Davia Cordell came to Rockland for one purpose–find her son’s father before she dies. An ex-prostitute, she’s well aware that the news will cause waves, but what’s a mother to do?
As these women join forces to search for Joey’s father–a Rockland area pastor, no less– Emily learns compassion for a woman who just wants the best for her son and can’t quite imagine that Jesus wants anything to do with her.
Each day, Davia weakens until Emily isn’t confident she’ll find the boy’s father in time–if at all. Doubts form. Should she look? Is it right to risk destroying a family like this–an entire church? The weight of that responsibility crushes her as Davia wastes away before her eyes.
A mother’s love. A boy’s confidence. A family’s faith. A preacher’s failure. Is redemption even possible anymore?
Christmas Embers: a story of love, failure, and redemption.

Author Joanna Davidson Politano's stunning debut set in Victorian England will delight readers with its highly original plot, lush setting, vibrant characters, and reluctant romance.

Your Dreams, God's Plan by Tiffany Smiling with Margot Starbuck

Satisfaction can be yours, but it might look different than you thought.

Like a lot of young women, Tiffany Smiling had been assured that the path to fulfillment looked like the one she’d seen in her favorite movies: She’d be swept away by a soul mate, live in a southern estate, and start a family.

But Tiffany’s story unfolded quite differently.

Weeks after serving on her high school’s homecoming court, while doctors operated to remove the brain tumor that was killing her, Tiffany suffered a paralyzing stroke. In the nick of a scalpel she lost her beauty and most of her physical ability. Returning to high school in a wheelchair, head half-shaved and face distorted, Tiffany vowed to be normal and live the dream.

And for a season, she did.

But just when the fairytale was within reach, God surprised Tiffany. Wooing her heart, God convinced her that there was something even better in store for her.

. . .And He has something better in store for you, too.

Read Your Dream. God's Plan. and see how the Lord wants to use the broken pieces of your life for His greater plan for you.

Smiling's story will help you see the ways God is writing your own amazing story—designed for His glory and your fulfillment.

The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy

How do you explain the gospel to toddlers and preschoolers?
Often adults are stumped, but Jared Kennedy's focus on the promises of God makes the gospel come alive to the littlest hearts. Through fifty-two Old and New Testament stories, The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible highlights God's perfect promises. Every page pops with bright colors, playful illustrations, fun learning opportunities, and, best of all each story points children to Jesus.
Kids know the value of a promise. Through the gospel, our good and all-powerful God keeps his word and fulfills his promises to us better than we could have ever thought or imagined!
In The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible, author Jared Kennedy traces God's perfect promises through fifty-two Old and New Testament stories, retold in simple and compelling ways with toddlers and preschoolers in mind. Each gospel-centered story highlights God's tale of redemption through Jesus and the unexpected and surprising ways that God's grace and mercy are revealed throughout the Bible. Children will hear the good news of God's love for them clearly expressed in ways that will speak to their young hearts. Brightly colored illustrations highlight the stories and add fun teaching elements of counting, opposites, patterns, and object recognition to keep even the youngest child's attention. Every story also ends with a question that parents and caregivers can use to further reinforce the message.
Through reading this book one chapter at a time to your children-or letting them read it to you!-even the youngest kids will come to know that God's promises are especially for them, and that God always keeps his promises.

My Thoughts.....
This storybook is very cute! The illustrations are fun and beautiful. When I get a children's Bible or Bible story book I always check to make sure they don't leave out the main theme of the Bible, Jesus birth death and resurrection, and this one had these stories in it and they were very well done. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading the stories in this book. They are very simply stated but not watered down in any way. I am very excited to be able to share this with some of the younger children in my life. This is going to make a great Christmas present for one of them. I received this book from LitFuse Publishing for free. All opinions are my own. A positive review was not required.

The Christmas Admirer by Laura V. Hilton

christmas admirer facebook banner copy

Christmas admirer
Benaiah Troyer has loved Susanna King for as long as he can remember, but when his parents died in an accident a year ago, he broke up with her—for her own good. After all, he was now the sole caregiver for his three younger sisters. What woman would want to put up with that? Still, against his better judgment, he can’t help leaving her a gift now and then, anonymously addressing her name in big block print, just to catch a smile. Roses one month, maple syrup candy another; and maybe this time, something special for Christmas.
Susanna has never gotten over losing Benaiah, but now the clock is ticking. Her father is selling his glass-blowing business, remarrying in January, and moving to Iowa with his bossy wife-to-be. Angry and frustrated, Susanna realizes she’s left with three options: one, go with Daed to his new home with a new mom; two, stay in Jamesport, Missouri, as an old maid; or, three, the best yet, flush out her mysterious secret admirer. But how could she be with anyone else when her heart is still with Benaiah?

Pass It On by Champ Thorton

Let Scripture reform the next generation.

There are many different kinds of legacies we can leave, but sharing yourself and your faith with the next generation will always stand the test of time. Through showing himself and his wisdom in the book of Proverbs, God has also left his legacy with us and relies on us to share it with our children and grandchildren. But before we can share that wisdom, first we must grow in our own understanding and knowledge and record, reflect, and consider what we have learned.
Pass it On provides readers with an opportunity to create a legacy of wisdom and faith and to share it with their children and grandchildren. As readers are guided through the book of Proverbs, they are asked to create their own personalized, wisdom journal with the aim of giving it to someone they love. Through careful study, answering questions, writing out prayers, and sharing personal stories, readers can create a lasting keepsake for themselves and for their families and friends.
Created by Champ Thornton, best-selling author ofThe Radical Book for KidsPass It On is an innovative resource to strengthen families and help them grow in their love for God and each other. This is a perfect gift for an older and wiser friend or relative, so they can share themselves and what they have learned about God with the next generation.
The fresh and careful translation provided comes from Dr. Bruce Waltke, who, now in his eighties, has devoted his life to a humble and Christ-focused study of God s Word, and especially the book of Proverbs. His two-volume work on Proverbs is considered by many as the premier commentary in the English language. As you study the translation of individual chapters, add your own comments in the margins. And feel free to circle, underline, and connect key words or phrases as you see them in the chapter for the day.

My Thoughts......
I have enjoyed going through this journal. I was however somewhat taken aback by the style of this journal. I'm not really sure what I was expecting but this wasn't it. I think for some reason I was expecting more of a devotional type deal and this is more of a journal. This is also meant to be used as a gift for someone else. You go through and read the key scriptures on each day and record your thoughts for those passages. When you are finished going through it the idea is to give it to someone from a younger generation. I really did like this concept. I think this is a great idea for parents to give to their children or grandparents to give to their grandchildren. This is a great way to share in your spiritual journey. I received this book from LitFuse publicity for free. A positive review was not required. All opinions are my own.

A Woman Overwhelmed by Hayley DiMarco

"A Woman Overwhelmed" is a phrase with which many women can relate.
But what would happen if we could see the insanity in our pace and embrace our overwhelming God?
There is a reason they say that a woman's work is never done- because it isn't! As women, we often are overwhelmed by the demands and circumstances of life, resulting in stress, fear, worry, impatience, fatigue, frustration, and even depression. The truth is that we were created to be overwhelmed . . . not by life but by God! When we learn to be overwhelmed by God, the fruit in our lives goes from rotten to fragrant-filling our days with peace, hope, love, and joy
In A Woman Overwhelmed, best-selling author Hayley DiMarco shares biblical insights and personal stories to offer a glimpse at the comedy of an overwhelmed life while encouraging us to discover the depths and heights of God's love and power.
Be empowered to find freedom in becoming overwhelmed with who God is-by learning to focus on what we know about God so that we can hold onto faith even when it seems that all is lost. For it is when an overwhelmed woman gives up the mission of me and exchanges it for the mission of God that being overwhelmed becomes a good thing.
Choose to bask in the abundance of the Father instead of the abundance of life as his unfathomable depths can surely replace our fathomable messes.

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

Becoming a Christian is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to Sarah Hollenbeck. Best because, well, that's obvious. Worst because, up to this point, she's made her very comfortable living as a well-known, bestselling author of steamy romance novels that would leave the members of her new church blushing. Now Sarah is trying to reconcile her past with the future she's chosen. She's still under contract with her publisher and on the hook with her enormous fan base for the kind of book she's not sure she can write anymore. She's beginning to think that the church might frown on her tithing on royalties from a "scandalous" book. And the fact that she's falling in love with her pastor doesn't make things any easier.

With a powerful voice, penetrating insight, and plenty of wit, Bethany Turner explodes onto the scene with a debut that isn't afraid to deal with the thorny realities of living the Christian life.

Walking the Walk Not Just Talking the Talk

Women often pack their lives with family, friends, and faithful service, yet still end up feeling empty and unfulfilled. In Walk It Out, Tricia Goyer demonstrates to women that walking out the mandates of Scripture allows God to spark passion and mission within them.

Whether believers realize it or not, God intended for them to do what the Bible says: adopt the orphan, take the gospel into all the world, and care for the needy. These are mandates that point believers down the path of true living and eternal life.

Sometimes those steps are easy, but many times they require a move outside of what feels safe or secure. When women stop focusing on their own dreams and purposes, and instead focus on God’s dreams and purposes, everything changes.

Books Made Into Movies

Most of the time the book is always better than the movie. It's just a fact of life. The book gives so many more details usually and there is only so much you can do with a movie in an hour and a half. But these movies I am going to list while maybe not as good as the book, can be entertaining to watch. I'm shooting for 10 Christian fiction movies here. We will see how well I do.

Love Comes Softly (10th Anniversary Collection)
1. Love Comes Softly Series
I really do like these movies. The first one varied a little from the books by making Missy older and I actually understand that. I really liked the first couple that they made but the last few weren't my favorites because they strayed so much from the books. Still this series is great to watch if you are looking for wholesome entertainment. But hey, give the books a shot too. You won't be sorry.

Karen Kingbury's A Time to Dance
2. A Time to Dance
I LOVED this movie! To be fair I haven't read the book, but they did a fantastic job making this movie. It literally moved me to tears. I really should read this book!

The Last Sin Eater
3. The Last Sin Eater
Again I haven't read this book but I have several very reliable sources who say it is wonderful. It is on my TBR pile. I have however seen some of this movie and I was completely confused. I'm going to say read the book first if you are attempting to watch this one.

The Christmas Box / Timepiece
4. The Christmas Box/ Timepiece
I love these movies. They are some of my favorite movies to watch at Christmas. They are very well done and worth the watch. I haven't read the books (this is a book blog right? Ha!) but I know the movies are great.

Saving Sarah Cain
5. Saving Sarah Cain
I loved this book! I wanted to like the movie just as much but I didn't like it much at all. It was one of those where they left out things that I felt were important and just really let me down. Read the book it's excellent!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Widescreen Edition)
6. The Chronicles of Narnia
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

So I loved this movie when I saw it. I loved how the Bible came to life thorough this movie. I haven't read the books but I know others who have and they enjoyed the movie also.

Like Dandelion Dust
7. Like Dandelion Dust
I read this book. This was not my favorite Karen Kingsbury book anyway, but surprisingly the movie was still worse than the book. Having a recognizable cast didn't help this one for me.

Karen Kingsbury's The Bridge: The Complete Story
8. The Bridge
I really liked this movie. But I waited until both parts came out before I watched it. Talk about an angry bunch when they split this one up a few Christmas's ago. Excellent movie and the book is on my TBR for Christmas this year.

Beverly Lewis' the Shunning
9. The Shunning
I have been told that this is Beverly Lewis' best series, but I haven't read it yet. These movies were decent. I would love to read these books too. I actually have them in my TBR Pile as soon as I can get the third book. I do not like reading a series until I have them all.

10. The Passion of the Christ
Ok, so I was grasping at straws but this is about the Bible. The Bible is a book non-fiction, but still it. I loved this movie! Mel Gibson did an excellent job of portraying scripture in this movie while still keeping it very close to scripture. It's one of my all time favorite Bible based movies.

Whew! I made it. That was actually kind of tough. What did I miss? Do you agree with my thoughts on these movies? Do you have some to recommend that I didn't mention? Let me know in the comments.
