Walking the Walk Not Just Talking the Talk

Women often pack their lives with family, friends, and faithful service, yet still end up feeling empty and unfulfilled. In Walk It Out, Tricia Goyer demonstrates to women that walking out the mandates of Scripture allows God to spark passion and mission within them.

Whether believers realize it or not, God intended for them to do what the Bible says: adopt the orphan, take the gospel into all the world, and care for the needy. These are mandates that point believers down the path of true living and eternal life.

Sometimes those steps are easy, but many times they require a move outside of what feels safe or secure. When women stop focusing on their own dreams and purposes, and instead focus on God’s dreams and purposes, everything changes.

Becoming MomStrong by Heidi St. John

Have you ever looked into the faces of the people who call you “mom” and wondered what in the world you got yourself into?If you’re like many Christian moms today, you’ve been reading the headlines and watching the rapid-fire changes in our culture with frustration and fear. Let’s face it: Moms today are facing questions that previous generations didn’t even see coming, and even our right to determine what is best for our own children is under fire. Popular speaker and blogger Heidi St. John (The Busy Mom) believes that today’s mothers need a special kind of strength. We need to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We dare not rely on human strength for the battles we’re facing right now. In Becoming MomStrong, Heidi has a powerful message just for you―the mom in the midst of it all. Through encouragement, practical prayer points, and authentic “me-too” moments, Heidi equips you for a job that only you can do: to train your children to hear God’s voice and to walk in truth no matter where our culture is heading. God wants to use this generation of mothers to do something extraordinary:
  • To be strong in the Lord
  • To know who you are in Christ, and
  • To impart that strength to your kids.
In other words, He wants you to be MomStrong! So if you’re feeling tired or inadequate today, get ready to find new strength as you join Heidi St. John in Becoming MomStrong

Top Ten Tuesday-- Books Made Into Movies

Top Ten Tuesday

Books Made Into Movies

Most of the time the book is always better than the movie. It's just a fact of life. The book gives so many more details usually and there is only so much you can do with a movie in an hour and a half. But these movies I am going to list while maybe not as good as the book, can be entertaining to watch. I'm shooting for 10 Christian fiction movies here. We will see how well I do.

Love Comes Softly (10th Anniversary Collection)
1. Love Comes Softly Series
I really do like these movies. The first one varied a little from the books by making Missy older and I actually understand that. I really liked the first couple that they made but the last few weren't my favorites because they strayed so much from the books. Still this series is great to watch if you are looking for wholesome entertainment. But hey, give the books a shot too. You won't be sorry.

Karen Kingbury's A Time to Dance
2. A Time to Dance
I LOVED this movie! To be fair I haven't read the book, but they did a fantastic job making this movie. It literally moved me to tears. I really should read this book!

The Last Sin Eater
3. The Last Sin Eater
Again I haven't read this book but I have several very reliable sources who say it is wonderful. It is on my TBR pile. I have however seen some of this movie and I was completely confused. I'm going to say read the book first if you are attempting to watch this one.

The Christmas Box / Timepiece
4. The Christmas Box/ Timepiece
I love these movies. They are some of my favorite movies to watch at Christmas. They are very well done and worth the watch. I haven't read the books (this is a book blog right? Ha!) but I know the movies are great.

Saving Sarah Cain
5. Saving Sarah Cain
I loved this book! I wanted to like the movie just as much but I didn't like it much at all. It was one of those where they left out things that I felt were important and just really let me down. Read the book it's excellent!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Widescreen Edition)
6. The Chronicles of Narnia
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

So I loved this movie when I saw it. I loved how the Bible came to life thorough this movie. I haven't read the books but I know others who have and they enjoyed the movie also.

Like Dandelion Dust
7. Like Dandelion Dust
I read this book. This was not my favorite Karen Kingsbury book anyway, but surprisingly the movie was still worse than the book. Having a recognizable cast didn't help this one for me.

Karen Kingsbury's The Bridge: The Complete Story
8. The Bridge
I really liked this movie. But I waited until both parts came out before I watched it. Talk about an angry bunch when they split this one up a few Christmas's ago. Excellent movie and the book is on my TBR for Christmas this year.

Beverly Lewis' the Shunning
9. The Shunning
I have been told that this is Beverly Lewis' best series, but I haven't read it yet. These movies were decent. I would love to read these books too. I actually have them in my TBR Pile as soon as I can get the third book. I do not like reading a series until I have them all.

Product Details
10. The Passion of the Christ
Ok, so I was grasping at straws but this is about the Bible. The Bible is a book non-fiction, but still it. I loved this movie! Mel Gibson did an excellent job of portraying scripture in this movie while still keeping it very close to scripture. It's one of my all time favorite Bible based movies.

Whew! I made it. That was actually kind of tough. What did I miss? Do you agree with my thoughts on these movies? Do you have some to recommend that I didn't mention? Let me know in the comments.

Patterns of Evidence:Exodus: A documentary by Timothy Mahoney

Patterns of Evidence: ExodusPatterns of Evidence: The Exodus is an award-winning documentary by filmmaker Timothy Mahoney that chronicles an in-depth archaeological investigation in Egypt as his team attempts to corroborate the biblical text. The film explores one fundamental question: Is there any evidence that the Exodus story actually happened? Twelve years in the making, this provocative documentary reveals new or rarely seen evidence regarding the Israelites descent into slavery, their Exodus from Egypt and their ultimate conquest of the Promised Land. Although many scholars and archaeologists deny the validity of the Exodus story for lack of proof, Patterns of Evidence: The Exodus builds a case that sheds new light on the story

Robert Truax, former Second Lieutenant and Confederate officer in the Civil War, made a promise to his comrade Phillip Markham. If anything happened to Phillip, Robert would look after his beloved wife, Miranda. She was his life, his world, his everything.
After the war, Robert is left to pick up the pieces and fulfill his pact. When he arrives at Miranda’s home in Galveston, Texas, things are worse than he imagined. Robert had thought his duty would be simple. He would help Miranda as quickly as possible in order to honor a promise. But the moment Robert laid eyes on her, his plans changed. He’s mesmerized by her beauty and yearns to help her in any way he can.
He makes it his duty to protect Miranda, turn her reputation around, and to find some way to help her smile again. But it doesn’t prove to be an easy task—Robert knows something about

Top Ten Tuesday--Top Ten Reasons to Read My Blog

Top Ten Tuesday!!

So earlier this year I tried out the Top Ten Tuesday thing and I liked it. So starting today, since it's the start of a new school year for us, I'm going to do Top Ten Tuesday every week. Barring no books are due for review on a Tuesday.
Also for your avid reader pleasure I will be doing Throwback Thursday. Throwback Thursday will consist of books at least 3 years old that I have either read before or might be new to me. They will include reviews as well as where to purchase them (if purchasing them is available.) I thought this would be a fun way to add something different to my blog as well as give me a good excuse to read all those books in my bookcase that I keep telling myself I'm gonna read again HA! Throwback Thursday will be whenever the mood strikes me. Could be every week, could be every other week, whenever the mood strikes me.

So here goes nothing........

Top Ten Reasons to Read My Blog

10. Book Reviews
I happen to love reading books. I have only been reviewing for a little over two years, but I love it. In that two years time I have learned a lot from other bloggers and even taken a class on blogging. I have read a ton of amazing authors I wouldn't have had the opportunity to read had it not been for reviewing. So before you make out that new TBR list come by and check out my reviews!

9. I'm An Honest Reviewer
I know, more about reviewing but I just wanted to say, you don't have to worry about me leading you astray on books that I have read. You will always get my honest and fair opinion.

8. Real Life
Occasionally I'll have some real life posts that prove I'm human and that (hopefully) give encouragement for other moms/women.

7. Giveaways
Periodically I'll be doing giveaways. They may be from a blog tour I'm on or a just because from me. Sign up for my emails so you don't miss out.

6. Clean Reading
No matter what I am writing on my blog, or what book I might be reviewing, I'll always be clean and reader friendly. The only time that you might have to be careful is if I've found something in a book I need to warn you about. But I will always be discreet.

5. I'm Not An Over Poster
Horrible grammar I'm sure, but you know what I'm talking about. Those blogs that send 5 emails everyday. whether they have five different reviews or they send you the same one over and over. I can promise I'm here enough for you to notice me but I won't overload you mailbox.

4. Variety
More and more I am trying to review lots of different kinds of books. While I do try not to get books in genres I know I don't usually like, I am trying to branch out a little when I see one that grabs me. There are also reviews on children's books, devotional/Bible study books and non-fiction. Variety is the spice of life right?

3. Connection
I love connecting with my readers. I'd like to get to know you better. I would also like for you to know me better. Maybe there will be a time in the near future when I can learn more about you.

2. Fun
I always like to make sure my readers are having a good time. Feel free to let me know how I can make my blog more fun and exciting.

1. Support
The number one reason for reading my blog is to support me and authors alike. You support me by reading and commenting. The more you show interest, the more authors see my influence. By doing this you may also see an author or book you might like and buy their work, thus supporting the authors I review.

Thanks for reading today's Top Ten Tuesday!
Comment below what you like about my blog. Feel free to take a look around too.

In Search of a Father's Blessing by Doug Stringer

By the late 1980s, God began to give Doug Stringer insight regarding the state of our nation and the daily problems his ministry saw as it reached out to young people struggling with drugs, alcohol, abortion, prostitution, apathy, and other issues. The root and source of all these issues suddenly became clear: America is a nation devoid of fathers, both natural and spiritual. We are an orphaned nation with broken and dysfunctional families, a society of individuals in search of identity. Now, almost thirty years later, we have a "double generation" of fatherlessness—orphaned parents raising orphaned children. Even people with good fathers suffer from the widespread effects that fatherlessness has on our culture and our world.

Doug illustrates the heart of God and gives the reader a clear path to the affirmation, acceptance, and approval of a father. He draws from his own struggle with fatherlessness and the struggle of others to offer insight into the power of God, including:

The answer to the problem of fatherlessness in our nation
The importance of spiritual fathers in the church
How to be a spiritual father
How to find a spiritual father
God's heart for reconciliation between generations
The power that is unleashed with generations work together
How to overcome broken trust and learn to trust again.

The church is only now awaking to the heart cry of a generation that has been abandoned and left to its own devices. Doug Stringer believes that God is ready to release a multigenerational anointing, calling forth generations of churches and nations to come back to their Abba Father.
