Sister Dear by Laura Mcneill

All Allie Marshall wants is a fresh start. But when dark secrets refuse to stay buried, will her chance at a new life be shattered forever?
Convicted of a crime she didn’t commit, Allie watched a decade of her life vanish—time that can never be recovered. Now, out on parole, Allie is determined to clear her name, rebuild her life, and reconnect with the daughter she barely knows.
But Allie’s return home shatters the quaint, coastal community of Brunswick, Georgia. Even her own daughter Caroline, now a teenager, bristles at Allie’s claims of innocence. Refusing defeat, a stronger, smarter Allie launches a battle for the truth, digging deeply into the past even if it threatens her parole status, personal safety, and the already fragile bond with family.
As her commitment to finding the truth intensifies, what Allie ultimately uncovers is far worse than she imagined. Her own sister has been hiding a dark secret—one that holds the key to Allie’s freedom.

Here is what I thought...
I was skeptical when I started this book. Mainly because I had heard that Laura's books had quite a bit of bad language in them. So I started reading this book very cautiously. I have to admit though, from page 1 I was hooked. I couldn't believe how quickly I was engrossed in the story and finding out what really happened "that fateful night." I was completely fooled for about 3/4s of the book, then the "bad guy" hit me like a ton of bricks. Knowing who the real person responsible was didn't sway me from reading in the slightest. And boy am I glad I didn't quit because what A surprise! Two negatives for this book were a few choice words and a somewhat sensual scene that left very little to the imagination. Other than that a fabulous book. Again not necessarily what I would call Christian fiction, (even though it is published by a Christian fiction company). But overall a decent 98% clean read. Worth the read if you are into John Grisham or other semi-clean secular authors.
I was provided a copy of this book by the Fiction Guild and the publisher in exchange for my honest review. A positive review was not required.

4 out of 5 stars
PG-13 content
18 and up in my opinion
Ocassional bad language and a sensual/semi-explicit scene
