Life After by Katie Ganshert

It could have been me.Snow whirls around an elevated train platform in Chicago. A distracted woman boards the train, takes her seat, and moments later a fiery explosion rips through the frigid air, tearing the car apart in a horrific attack on the city’s transit system. One life is spared. Twenty-two are lost.

A year later, Autumn Manning can’t remember the day of the bombing and she is tormented by grief—by guilt. Twelve months of the question constantly echoing. Why? Why? Why? Searching for answers, she haunts the lives of the victims, unable to rest.

Paul Elliott lost his wife in the train bombing and wants to let the dead rest in peace, undisturbed and unable to cause more pain for his loved ones. He wants normalcy for his twelve-year-old daughter and young son, to see them move beyond the heartbreak. But when the Elliotts and Autumn are unexpectedly forced together, he fears she’ll bring more wreckage in her wake.

In Life After, Katie Ganshert’s most complex and unforgettable novel yet, the stirring prose and authentic characters pose questions of truth, goodness, and ultimate purpose in this emotionally resonant tale.

About the Author

Here is what I thought......
I never know exactly what to say about Katie's books. Fabulous, Awesome, Phenomenal all seem like the wrong words to describe them even though all of those words are true. This book is another example of the outstanding job Katie does of tugging on your heartstrings and not letting go. This story is one that makes you think about life and how you live it. When you read this book, it isn't flashy. It doesn't have some sort of major mystery or crazy storyline that keeps you turning pages. I think the thing that makes it a can't put down book is the realness of the story. It's the true-to-life, personal feeling that these people you are reading about are real. They are your friends and family or maybe they are you. This story doesn't feel like fiction. This is a book that once you read it you will never forget it. The way this story ends will stick in your heart forever. My favorite thing about this book is how one sentence completes this story. One sentence makes the whole story perfect and polished and profound. One sentence made my heart swell and the tears well in my eyes. One sentence that makes me want to read this book over and over again.
This book is an absolutely phenomenal read that I would recommend to anyone. I cannot wait for the next book from Katie. This book is perfect for those who may be questioning their life or why God let's bad things happen to good people. Everybody should read this book.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for free. A positive review was not required. All opinions are my own.
